oh, hai!!! i is here today! i was here yesterday, too!
this is by far the best version there is ... i desperately wish they'd open up the world and get a faster server.. I've been playing OddGiants the past 2 months and it's been great, but definitely lacking compared to this version.
Honestly, at this point they should just merge into one big one. Screw this notion of "different creative visions." There simply aren't enough players and coders interested to maintain THREE projects. (IIRC, 11 wanted exact recreation, and Odd Giants/CoU wanted to change/add many new features.) It's been TWELVE F***ING YEARS! Lol. I recall CoU and 11 merging... did that ever happen? Odd Giants and 11 and CoU should all merge tbh... The vision should be both recreating the game as it exactly was and also adding features that the community votes on (like Old School Runescape) over time. Or, if the teams aren't interested in that... then they can at least combine forces to get the recreation portion of each game working faster. But I think agreeing on one paradigm, perhaps with a community poll, could really revitalize motivation to make Glitch great again.
Hello! I don't really know a ton about coding myself, but my understanding was Java (I think it was Java, has been 'TWELVE F***ING YEARS!' lol) was already an out of date method for them to make the game with so anyone trying to recreate it was pretty much going to have to rebuild it on something else, so at this rate it comes down to who's using what and which is more closely realized to the original.
To be honest I'm 100% down for new additions and everything of the sort, but if we were to have the best hopes of recapturing any nostalgia/magic from that era then we need to try and pool together and come up with something that more closely resembled the game as it was the day it was shut down; and build out from there. I tried the couple that are out there in the past and I don't think I ever got to try 11's, but I know one of them relied on you providing the link to your Glitchen's original profile; So you could at least look like your old character while playing around, but progress couldn't be saved so it was essentially just a sandbox. (Children of Ur early on I believe.)
Unfortunately it's been discovered recently though that the site's finally been taken down so that's no longer an option. I was starting to look back in to this since there was chatter in the FB group so I might pop around and check in on the progress of the other projects like I did here because I really loved the game, but last I checked CoU and OG handled the game differently than the original. The fact effort's split 3 ways hasn't always sat well, because unless one of the projects definitively crosses the finish line and everyone abandons everything else and gets onboard with it, I fear the game's gonna stay forever fractured/broken. Word of mouth worked to an extent in the past, but we'd need more then that to coral the old players back in and wrangle up some new ones while we're at it.
Or maybe it's thriving and I'm just a dumb dumb who should've never stopped checking in, lol.
